Westmount Chardonnay Willamette Valley 2021
No…this is not deja vu. WestMOUNT not WestWOOD. Oregon, not California. Willamette Valley, not Sonoma. But KILLER Chardonnay at a simply UNIMAGINABLE price?!?! That much, at least, they do have in common! Y’all went righteously ga-ga for our Westwood Chardonnay drop three days ago – and for any of y’all that missed out…or any who just LOVE rich, mouth-coating, heart-stopping, utterly impeccable Chardonnay at world-beating prices – here…ya…GOOOOOO!!!
For the simply jaw-dropping price of just FOURTEEN DOLLARS?! Can it be??? YES!!!
Westmount is a Willamette Valley winery founded by two Pacific Northwest transplants, a couple of ski-bums that were drawn by the very fires of fate to meet up to that sort of outdoorsy, adventure-loving aesthetic that Oregon exemplifies. So I wanted to do this justice, taking the bottle on a ludicrously early morning hike up the Palisades trail that towers over Calistoga. Not exactly thrill-seeking mountaineering, or heli-skiing – but with these knees, this is as close as I’m gonna get! It did not disappoint! Thrilling aromatics burst from my GoVino, giving up toasted almonds, with honeysuckle, a kiss of orange marmalade, with spicy matchstick, and a sprinkling of cinnamon. My first sip burst with flavor waves of Honeycrisp apples, marzipan, grandma’s biscuits, a little hint of clove and brûléed lemon finish.
WICKED GOOD – deeply spiced and mineral-driven, with a flinty freshness that keeps on kicking! DOUBLE 92 POINTS???? I get it. A Wine Enthusiast’s “Editor’s Choice” selection, too? I’m on board. But the absolutely LOONY price of just $14?!?! I don’t know how…and I really don’t care. LOAD UP! Go hiking and bring this as your libation, or go skiing and have a bottle of this for your Apres ski, or heck bring it out to the coast and order up the biggest seafood tower you can find! Any way you twist it (handy dandy screwcap alert!), you simply can’t go wrong with getting a whole lot of this beauty!
