I’m here to say…BRAVO! And GODSPEED! Benoit Touquette may be best known for his work crafting mailing-list only, unbelievably CULT-Y California cabs at heralded wineries like Realm, Hartwell, Fait-Main, and more – but I’m pretty sure none of those guys are releasing an UNDER $20 Cali-cab anytime in the next century!!! A rare and meticulously crafted BARREL SELECTION of some of his favorite California cabernet – in this case, mostly from the Red Hills AVA just north of Howell Mountain, rounded out with some KILLER Paso Robles goodness, and some classical Napa cab for good measure! High elevations, volcanic soils, cool-climate influences, and utterly perfect terroirs across the board – ALL for the sort of price that surely, positively, simply HAS to be too good to be true!!!
It’s real, folks. And my word…is it ever bright, zippy, and JUICY! Fun stuff with a complexity that belies the KILLER price – with aromatic notes of baking spices, wild herbs, and plenty of tasty red fruits like cherries, and raspberries, with currants, and even this flourish of those little wild plums I used to find by the creek near the house I grew up – barely bigger than cherries, and tart at first, then super sweet, and simply irresistible! I’d eat them until my tummy seized up, swallow a gallon of water from a neighbor’s hose, and then eat ‘em all over again. Good times. And that’s what this wine is all about! Tuesday night pizza? Late-night Uber Eats drop-off of an In-N-Out Double-Double (animal style, obviously), and fries cooked extra-crisp?! YESSSS!
This is a wine for all occasions, at a price that means you need to buy CASES. Toss in the STUNNING 2021 vintage too?! Stop. It. Under $120 for a six-pack delivered to your front door means you cannot afford to miss! Load up, and be quick about it! While they last!
