Skyhook Red Wine Bennett Valley Sonoma County 2018

Caymus cousins! From one of the most famous wine families in the good ol’ USA comes this 92 POINT red at nearly 70% OFF!

SKYHOOK! I’m crushing on this inky, toasty, completely over-the-top bottle of ripe and hedonistic goodness in the most hardcore way – and not just because Skyhook will always take me back to the good old days of Streetfighter II and Ryu’s spinning, devastating, skyhook uppercut! (Ok, it’s actually called Shoryuken – but to me and my boys…it was, and always will be, the skyhook!) Anywho…the wine! If you love the unapologetic BOLDNESS, and the devil-may-care ultra-concentration, that could only come from years of CAYMUS training…look…no…FURTHER!

J. Derek Beitler in da house! If you don’t know him, I bet you know his family tree – Kurt Beitler, brother: Bohème wines out in Sonoma, Joey Wagner, cousin: Belle Gloss, Quilt, BÖEN, et all, and of course…Chuck Wagner, uncle: CAYMUS!!! Some family tree, am I right? Well, J. grew up making the trek down from his home, Oregon, every summer to work with Uncle Chuck at Caymus – and that gave him a taste for the biz. Years later, he made the move down here, opening up projects like Bodega Rancho, Carne Humana, and others with his cousin Joe. And finally, he got the chance to go all-in on his own project, JDB Wines.

Skyhook is the Cali-Rhone red of the bunch, and my word is this a big ol’ BEAST in that classic Caymus style. BIG, sweet toasty oak, with bushels full of blackberries, and raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, boysenberries…even olallieberries? YES!!! Can you even imagine it? Like a mixed berry pie, baked to toasty perfection in a wood-fired oven, with all the spice, and decadent voluptuousness just oozing over the sides. Hints of olive tapenade, and smoked and savory meatiness pop in for added depth on the finish – for one thrilling, utterly surprising wine! Bib up, double up on napkins, and DIVE IN! 92 points and way UNDER $20!!! I mean, C’MON!

While it lasts!
