Roberto Voerzio Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2023
It’s our BIRTHDAY! 15 years of the best wine deals in the biz — and we’re celebrating all…weekend…long with some of our personal favorites! Like…Roberto Voerzio!!! One of the most sought-after names in the Italian wine game today — and we teamed up for a special 94 POINT bottling you can’t get ANYWHERE else!
The man, the myth, the LEGEND Roberto Voerzio is BACK! This is the man solely responsible for my Barbera EPIPHANY a couple years back — thanks to a twenty-two years young bottle ordered at a dinner by famed Italian winemakers (and Voerzio superfans themselves) Tancredi Biondi Santi and Emanuele Graetz. It was complex, and brooding, and unbelievably…ALIVE. Barbera wasn’t supposed to be able to do that…but I know better now!
And this little 94 POINT STUNNER? It flat out ROCKS! So fresh, so pretty, so impeccably bright and deceptively structured…just STAGGERINGLY brilliant stuff! I mean, what a way to end the work week!!! The luscious, earthy, forest duff that evokes a foggy morning walk among the coastal redwood giants of the Pacific Northwest! Milk chocolate, and licorice, with baked strawberries, and mocha-dusted raspberries, tart cranberries, hibiscus, rose petals, and…AND! I poured a cartoonishly large glass and drank this over several hours — and it somehow just kept getting better…and better! Roberto’s Barolos are some of the best anywhere (and regularly trade hands for $200-$300 a bottle on the USA grey-market…) but if you’ve never had his Barbera before — then you are in for a treat!!!
The grapes come from old vine plots in the Asti hills, grown on a blend of Piemonte’s famed clay and limestone (the same soils as Right Bank Bordeaux…interesting!) Roberto ages in French barrique barrels, and now a couple years in bottle — this Queen of Piemonte is just SHINING! A shockingly low $30 a bottle for a wine of this pedigree and potential is mind-blowing — and there’s no point mincing words here, folks — YOU NEED THIS! Get three, or get three dozen — you will not regret it!
Let the Last Bottle Birthday celebrations BEGIN! Stay tuned all weekend long for some KILLER deals!
