Lorenzo de Agrelo Malbec LOBendito Mendoza Argentina 2017
95 POINTS! Is it a rare Napa red? Is it an impossible-to-find Champagne? A $200 Bordeaux?
No, no. HOLD. ON. It is a 95-point, $17 (yeah, as in SEVENTEEN dollars!) Argentinian Malbec, still so under the radar (compared to its prestigious $100+ neighbors such as Catena Zapata, Cobos, etc.) that we jumped on this for you guys like kids on a pile of Christmas morning presents. WOW!! What can we say?? Just…...hurry!!
*are you hurrying? We WILL sell out….
OK, admonitions aside now, let us regale on this rich, silky red from a winery to watch. Crazy at this price! First off, the glass in this bottle must have cost $17, based on its weight - these guys are not messing around! Serious red/purple juice, and the nose just leaps out into your nose with grapey black plums and mocha, and when it hits the mouth….well, get this bottle away from me because it is TOO early to drink that much. More of those ripe plums, black cherry, and lightly toasty sweet tobacco, cigar box, clove, nutmeg and as the review notes, a really nice, savory, one-more-sip slight saline note, like high-end chocolate gelato with a bit of salt. Finished fresh and bright with dark red fruit coming in. Insanely good, drinking WAY OVER its price. AH…..did we mention 95 points? While it lasts!
