Le Mistral Red Blend Joseph's Arroyo Seco 2021
Le Mistral blowing into the Last Bottle wind tunnel today!!! 93 POINTS, over 60% OFF, and ready to toss a Cali-coated gauntlet towards the good folks of Châteauneuf-du-Pape!
Let’s go!!! From the Petaluma Gap to Monterey, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and beyond – a bit of a windy disposition can really make a region special. And wind is what makes this wine a winner, folks!!! For decades, Le Mistral was a project headlined by Napa’s famed Joseph Phelps Vineyards – and just as INSIGNIA was their flagship Bordeaux blend, Le Mistral was their pinnacle of Cali-Rhône – an homage to Châteauneuf-du-Pape from a cool, windy vineyard in the Arroyo Seco corridor of Monterey. In the heart of the Rhône Valley, and especially in CdP – everyone knows the infamous Le Mistral – a furious and freezing wind that blows over the region every winter and spring (up to 80 mph!) and is a vital characteristic of the vineyard’s terroir. For this wine, Le Mistral is an actual plot in the Arroyo Seco, where old vines of Grenache and Syrah make some seriously CdP-reminiscent wines…just…like…THIS!!!
Wild and savage with floral notes of rose petals, and earthy camphor, roasted herbs, and warm saddle leather – still dusty from the trail. Yeehaw! Just crazy smooth, and intensely spiced, with a luxurious finish…this beauty is redolent with fennel fronds and juicy blackberries, then red currants, and roasted plums, freshly baked baguettes, and a kiss of sweet sassafras cola. I love it…a true homage to delightfully old-school CdP – at a Last Bottle swoon-worthy price!
Get excited, everybody! And get some Cali-Rhône that’ll rock…your…WORLD!
