Kaiken Malbec Indomito Uco Valley 2019

 ** Holding breath **

  • Let fly the Kaiken!
  • 96 POINTS Decanter
  • Not $100, not $30, no….keep going
  • A wine we’ve been trying to get for months, now arriving on a heavenly rainbow of angel song…
  • Deep, dark, almost opulently endowed rich red, spicy, flowery, extra yum
  • Less than a movie and a bucket of popcorn, or maybe even less than just a movie

Oh, man, so, so good! We’ve loved the Kaiken wines for years (they get tons of big scores and have a huge following), but rarely is there enough to go around, or the price isn’t quite right, or whatever. But…BUT! Today, the wine-slinging gods, Bacchus, and quite possibly Adrock from the Beastie Boys, have shined their light upon our Napa warehouse and we have THE most rocking deal — WHILE IT LASTS!

Kaiken is the Argentinian project of a true legend, Aurelio Montes, hailing from a vineyard planted in 2005 at 3,115 feet and named for the migrating geese that cross over these mountains on their migration route twice a year. (Hence, the label.)  Whilst searching for his next new project, Aurelio came to feel a certain kinship with these geese, as he too was crossing that route over the Andes repeatedly in search of top-notch vineyards. And guess what?! He found one. True to his bold and structured style that made him one of the most respected vintners in the world, (but maybe with a bit more Bordeaux-like structure,) this wine is ROCKING, Angus-Young-soloing-on-his-back-foot rocking, with huge aromatics of crushed violets and rose petals,  lavender pastilles, crushed blackberries, summer strawberries, shaved chocolate, anise pods, espresso, vanilla bean, and pie crust…rich and fresh and just percolating with deliciousness. WAY too easy to drink a second or third glass….WHAT A PRICE! 96 POINTS?! Why, you could buy a $175 Bordeaux with a score like that! But why?

Good on ya! Now go get 6 and your weekend will be that much better!
