So…are you having fun, yet?! Tippy-top notch Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, from one of the long-standing LEGENDS of the Russian River Valley and Sonoma scene? I sure am! I snuck a bottle of this baddie out with me on Friday (perks of the job), and brought it to today’s brunch (if you’re in Saint Helena, you just might spot me at the bar at Farmstead). Biscuits & gravy with this baddie? STOP IT!
Maretella sits on the eastern edge of the RRV – where low elevations trap in coastal fog on loamy, alluvial-driven soils. The natural richness here is counterbalanced with some of the DENSEST plantings anywhere in Sonoma, to make for a wine that is full – but also fully stressed for the utmost character. Think Oliver Twist…were he to get his righteous fill of porridge. The aromas and flavors are simply KILLER – with Valencia oranges, Granny Smith apples, and creamy, generously spiced, poached pears. There are these interest-increasing flecks of cinnamon and cardamom, with river rock minerality carrying this all into a warm and soul-filling finish. Please, sir…I WANT SOME MORE!
