Galadino Primitivo Susumaniello Salento 2020
Now, THAT is a spicy meatball! Southern Italy coming in hot, hot, hot! Way, WAY under $20, for a delectable, soul-warming red from Puglia!
Southern Italian aficionados! Zinfandel people! Rare grape wine nerds! Appassimento fans, and ripe, generous, sexy red wines in general passionistas! Red alert! You know that scene in Bohemian Rhapsody where they come back together at LiveAid and just crush it? It’s glorious, and the coldest souls among you can scarcely hold back a tear or two. We’re getting the feels like that for this absolutely RAGING, supremely generous, blueberry-laden Italian classic, a MUST, from Puglia...the incredibly delicious, Pearl-jamming Primitivo and Susumaniello blend you never knew needed until…right…freakin’...NOW! Silly, silly price…just GO! Actually read the deets first.
Deep breath. AHHH. So, this is mostly Primitivo (a close relative of our beloved Zinfandel) and a fun grape called Susumaniello. These are ancient varietals, and uniquely suited to the hot, dry climate in Puglia, Italy. So – while our “Zin” is typically sweeter and jammier, this delicious version from Galadino is ZESTY, fresh, juicy, packed with bright red and blue fruits, and basically full of soul and everything you love about well-priced Italian reds. ONLY SIXTEEN BUCKS! Did we mention that? AND — the cool part — this wine is made in the Appassimento method, an ancient Italian tradition of naturally drying the bunches, producing a greater concentration of flavors, and a rich, ripe, and luscious character that follows. Simply GUSHING with ripe raspberries, bursting blueberries, and whiffs of heady, black licorice and little pops of brandied cherries. Amarone lovers, this is for YOU! Powerfully fruity and dense, yet creamy and bright, and lip-smackingly delicious, long, and ripe. Wonderful. Heavenly. Brings a tear to the eye at the price!
Rocking delish, and a totally cool new experience, if you’re dipping your toe into southern Italy (the heel of the boot part)!
