Firefly Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Stephanie Napa Valley 2013

Wowza...call me Freddie Mercury, 'cause another one bites the dust! Cabernet is back on the menu, good people!

12 years young and thriving – from one of the greatest vintages in Napa history!!! And the price?? Yep, RIDONKULOUS! And only at Last Bottle.

Ok, call up Nathan Fillion, get me the current whereabouts of Alan Tudyk, and where oh where is Summer Glau?!?! FIREFLY, good people! The greatest one-season sci-fi phenomenon in TV history is back! Wait…check that. Ok, not the TV show…but the 94 POINT Coombsville Cabernet??? Ok, that might be even better! And it’s way, WAY UNDER $30?! Alright…now we’re cooking with gas…wait, hold up…AND it’s from the eternally-youthful, unbelievably powerful 2013 vintage?!?! There…we…GOOOOO!!!

“This 2013 vintage has been impeccably aged, now at 12 years old and in its prime.” – Decanter, 94 points

You probably never heard of this winery – and that’s ok…I hadn’t either. But the wine? It ROCKS! Better still – you won’t find this ANYWHERE!!! Just TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS for this is just mind-melting! The wine was a family project – dad owned the vineyard, the son went to UC Davis’s Viticulture & Oenology program (where he became buds with winemaker Anthony Beckman), and later met his wife while both worked in the cellars at Stags' Leap Winery. The wine is made in that old school-y, classic Napa style – which ensures that even over a decade later…this tastes as brisk and fresh as a New Year’s Day polar plunge into a snow-melt filled lake! Zippy red bramble berries, black plums, and a simply ginormous array of spices and wild herbs. I’m talking cedar and bay laurel, black pepper and clove, pine, charred rosemary, and a careless whisper of Tahitian vanilla. KILLER complexity, plenty of structure for further aging, and absolutely CRUSHING it in my glass right here and NOW!!!

I mean, did you see that PRICE?! 94 POINT Napa Cab, from a vintage Wine Spectator called a “practically a flawless growing season…” that stands as a “no-brainer benchmark” for the region. Winemaker Anthony Beckman was a former newspaper reporter and SF Tech wiz in his youth – who decided at the ripe age of 29 that he didn’t want to turn 30 and still be working in a nondescript cubicle in some faceless office building in San Francisco. So he enrolled in UC Davis’ revered Vit & Oenology program, and ended up turning 30 while knee-deep in Dry Creek Zinfandel instead. He’s crafted wines at Peay (love those wines!), and Hudson, and Balletto (where he still serves as VP and winemaker). This might be an unknown producer – but don’t think for a second there aren't some serious winemaking chops on display! Toss in the exceptional, and cool, volcanically-grown grapes from the base of Coombsville’s Mt. George – and…well…what the heck are you even doing still reading this?! Fill your cart, already, good people!!!
