Domaine Jacques Girardin Santenay Premier Cru Clos Rousseau 2021
Ok, quick devouring of a baguette, stuffed with a little jambon et beurre…and let’s jump back in to Bastille Day! Burgundy is on the board!!! Coming from a family of winemaking greatness, this Santenay 1er Cru Clos Rousseau is a BANGIN’ value and perhaps even a candidate for buy of the year! It’s got it all...gloriously ripe and inviting fruit with all the texture, class, and finely vibing feels of 1er Cru Burgundy, but with a modern and polished edge that we just love to drink in the here and now. Under $40 makes it all the more seductive!
In a time when red burgundy often fetches sales numbers in the high triple-digits, it’s becoming exceedingly rare to score some that’s both high quality and under $100, let alone under $40!!! To have this Premier Cru beauty for UNDER $40 is the sort of coup that matches exactly what we’re celebrating all day long – especially coming from the prodigious Girardin family. Jacques Girardin has been making wine from his 17-hectare domaine situated in Santenay since the ‘70s, and you’ve probably heard of his more famous brother, Vincent, and father, Jean. It seems the gift for glorious wine runs in the family – but if you want to test the goods – you’re the one who better RUN!!!
Clos Rousseau sits on the southern border of Santenary, where 45-year-old vines grow in limestone. Macerated black cherries, tingly red currants, and juicy plums party and mingle with sultry violets and rose petals, all underscored with accents of thyme, black pepper, and a whisper of vanilla. It ROCKS – stuffed to the brim with soft and dusty tannins, plenty of complexity, and pristine balance. This baddie punches wildly above its price point – and we are thrilled to have a handful of these – but not nearly enough!!!
** Heads up, East Coasters…all shipments are headed out straight from our California warehouse on this one, so please allow a few extra days for delivery! **
** Ice pack charges will be assessed and charged at the time of order print ($8 per box, consolidated). If the ice pack method is selected on one (or all) of your orders, that ice pack charge will be assessed. **
