Up at 1500 feet, this is a structured, beautifully layered, mountain cabernet with gob-smacking intensity and impenetrable depth. Rich mocha, boysenberry pie, plus violets, crème de cassis, blueberries, and red cherries...just impeccable elegance and softness – as the best 2014 Napa cabs are known for! The 1,500 feet of elevation and the rocky slopes of Atlas Peak lend a brawny, intense end that will carry this wine into a long and enduring finish. How we got access to this is a miracle, and the man behind it all – perhaps even more compelling.
A few months back, I told you all about Saul Levine – the self-built, last-man-standing-independent radio pioneer of the Los Angeles basin, and one of the only in the entire USA. He still runs KKGO – even at 94 years old – and knows a thing or two about wines built to last. His sheer verve allowed him to buy a little chardonnay vineyard in Salinas in 1971 and he’s been making small amounts of wine under the Cobblestone brand for decades!
