Château la Garde Pessac-Léognan Rouge 2016
God, we love our jobs. BORDEAUX! Dead serious, HUGE-scoring (DC94, JS94, WE93 + MORE) from the fantastic 2016 vintage, Château La Garde at a simply cerebrum-shaking, deer-in-the-headlights price. Unreal! Just MOVE QUICK, scoops like this come along once in a blue moon!
Sure…it’s Cinco de Mayo – but most Mexicans will tell you…that’s not really a thing. But May 5th, 2025 is a day you’re ALWAYS gonna remember as the day you utterly SCORED one of the greatest deals in Last Bottle history! The quality for value, all wrapped up in a perfectly aged and ready to drink parcel of simply scintillating BORDEAUX goodness – it’s off…the…CHARTS!!! World-class producers from the Pessac-Leognan appellation in Bordeaux (think Chateau Haut Brion, La Mission, Smith Haut Lafitte, etc.) just don’t come around at prices anywhere NEAR this one. Decanter recently called this winery – once owned by the famed Lacoste family –“a hidden gem awaiting discovery”...and I’m pretty dang certain this estate is on the verge of superstardom!
So…what’s a high-scoring, nearly 10 years young, UNDER $30 Bordeaux taste like, you ask? In a word? KILLER! Richly seductive aromas of mocha and ripe blackberries, with hints of cedar, violets, soft pencil lead...DANG, Gina! The flavors are filled with assorted bramble berries ranging from black, to blue, with raspberries, mulberries, and black currants – enough to stain your tongue and leave you drooling! Plums and olives percolate to thrust this salty/sweet dichotomy into the foreground – and DAMNED if this doesn’t just keep going!!! Earthy notes of truffles and charred rosemary, with a delicate back-n-forth of smokey meatiness and minty freshness over the course of a long, velvety finish…WOWEE!! It’s powerful and opulent for being a nearly decade old Bordeaux, but the pedigree here is obvious – and obviously elegant!
Cherish this for the next few decades – and watch as the value of these wines skyrocket. 54 hectares of some of the most diverse land in the entire region, with TWENTY SEVEN distinct soil types sitting atop a gravelly, 50 meter high plateau just outside of the ancient walled city center of Bordeaux herself! This is the part where I tell you...HURRY. We have a nice stack of cases in the warehouse, fresh from Bordeaux, but with all these data points, it will be going mighty quick.
While it lasts…!
