Castello Romitorio Brunello di Montalcino 2019

Castello Romitorio Brunello di Montalcino 2019

Wine Spectator gave the 2019 vintage its second-highest rating of all time, characterizing it as "pure, fruit-filled Brunellos that combine elegance and power; the top wines rival the best 2016s...top wines from the vintage include Castello Romitorio’s stylish and graceful Brunello di Montalcino 2019."

YES!!! We teased out this fantastic producer with their Maremma red blend a few weeks back to whet your appetite, and expose you to the wonder that is Castello Romitorio – but this…THIS! Now, we FEAST, good people! 97 POINTS! The unbelievably revered 2019 Brunello vintage – a 5-STAR growing season, and one of the all-time greats for Tuscany. One crazy, swoon-worthy price. We tasted this back in April, on the last day of our two-week VinItaly sprint/marathon, after a long and memorable night/dawn in Verona’s Piazza delle Erbe…and a more rag-tag, road-weary band of brothers was nowhere to be found. And then, like a jolt of vinous lightning – Romitorio energized and revitalized our wits, our taste buds, and our very being. We HAD to make a deal – for you – and all the  Last Bottlers out there, on one of the absolute FINEST Brunello di Montalcinos of the vintage!

The luscious and heady cherries and kirsch! The sanguine minerality, and blood orange lift! That oh-so hypnotic *POP* of rose petals, carried on the cooling late-summer wind that brings whispers of sage, and lavender, cedar, and sandalwood – all grounded with this structured and fine-boned element of crushed gravel and sun-baked clay…MY WORD! This is like putting a future bet on your best friend’s kid to become President. It’s young, full of unending promise, and utterly captivating to your very core! 97 POINTS and I just can’t stop SIPPING! Best price in the good ol’ USA, people – but sure to FLY!

While it lasts!

** Romitorio Fun Fact: Head honcho Filippo Chia’s dad traded 3 paintings for these 200 hectares of land and a castle ruin that would become Castello Romitorio (Hermitage Castle). Sandro Chia (who also designs all their stunning labels) is a principal member of the Italian Neo-Expressionist movement – and his art is nearly as stunning as the wine inside! **
