Extremedura! So extreme! And it is!! Hot, arid and dry, it is a rather “extreme” place for grape growing and that’s what makes a lot of the wines here so exceptional. READ THIS about Extremadura, it makes us want to jump on a plane to Madrid. Alas, if you can’t do that, at least DRINK it at our get-down, get-down price!! Coloma is a small, family-run winery we discovered some years back, and it offers a staggering value even at what would be it’s normal $25 price. The “Seleccion” is the young and talented winemaker Amelia Coloma’s best barrels of Grenache, and it will zap your tongue and brain to attention. DID WE MENTION $13?!!!
Packed and percolating with kirsch, rose petals, rose hips, lush lavender and potpurri, sandalwood, clove, and cherry pie all mix with terrific freshness and vim and vigor. The amazing part is how balanced and fine this, so flowing and symphonius despite it’s rocking concentration.
