Alma Rosa Pinot Noir Barrel Select Sta. Rita Hills 2021
98 POINT Pinot Noir! For a jaw-dropping price tag!!! The wines of Alma Rosa are the best they’ve EVER been...and we scored it for the most EXCEPTIONAL price!
ALMA ROSA!!! One of the hottest, most collectible names of California’s Central Coast…and we’ve got ‘em! I gotta say…2026 is looking MIGHTY FINE so far!!! I mean, I started the day with some Hoppin’ John (black-eyed peas, collard greens, and smoky, tender pork) for health and wealth in the new year…and *POOF*!!! Simply profound, and delectably STUNNING Pinot Noir drops right into my lap! Founded by one of the most ICONIC names in California Pinot Noir – the one and only RICHARD SANFORD! Yes, my young padewans…he of SANFORD & BENEDICT fame…and without question the Central Coast’s most revered vineyard guru. He planted Sanford & Benedict vineyard back in 1971 – making him a pioneer for both Santa Barbara wines and the mighty rise of California Pinot. He also has vineyards like La Rinconada, and La Encantada to his credit – and of course, the El Jabali estate vineyard that makes up this ludicrously layered 98 POINT beast.
With that sort of pedigree, MASSIVE savings, and a daily-drinker bottle price should be just about everything I could ever need or want to say – and chances are this is well on its way to a record-breaking SELL OUT. But let’s be extra, shall we? Toss a bit more fuel onto the already raging bonfire? Like THOMAS RIVER’S BROWN understudy and fully-fledged RISING STAR, Samra Morris! She took over the winemaking in 2020, and is immediately credited with bringing a whole-’nother-level of quality to this coastal estate – with the usually reticent Antonio Galloni absolutely shoveling on the praise. Not only does he state she “turned out a gorgeous set of 2021s,” but he also goes on to say that she “succeeded in righting the ship for a winery that had been up and down in terms of quality and all over the stylistic map.”
Umm…98 POINTS?! I say that ship is CRUISING, baby! Not that she seems to need any help, but Samra is backed up by the legendary TONY BIAGI – you know, Vinous’s 2020 “Winemaker of the Year”. Sorry, does anyone have any extra mics that I can DROP?! This “Barrel Select” beauty gets the prime picks from across the estate's 22 acres of Pinot Noir, planted originally in 1983 on the north-facing slopes of the Santa Rita Hills. Normally $90 at the winery (and very, very limited), we made the BEST deal of 2026, so far, at least ;), to bring this to you at an unbelievable price!!!
Smoky aromas of tomato leaf, and black cherries, with plum tarts, and black raspberries, plus some heady fresh herb and licorice notes…this is bold, luscious Pinot that coats the tongue, bewilders the senses, and drops your jaw to the floor like a Rocky Balboa right hook. Fine, powdery tannins keep this lingering impressively, and this rose and hibiscus floral notes elevate it all like a fine Parisian perfume. Dry January be damned…get a lot, this EPIC deal will only last a couple of hours!
